One of the misnomers surrounding sustainable and ethical clothing is that it’s boring, simplistic, and nothing to write home about. While there are many brands that disprove that claim, I have been particularly impressed with Thought Clothing. Thought, a UK-based company, designs contemporary pieces with the planet and people in mind. Sustainable. Ethical. Perfect.
Ever since stepping into this arena in the Spring, I’ve wanted to try Thought. The only thing stopping me was deciding where to start! I ended up purchasing several pieces during their summer sale, which is still going on now.
Clemence Floral Top
This top is goooorgeous and incredibly comfortable. I am officially obsessed. I’ve been wearing it at least once a week since I got it, and anticipate wearing it well into the fall season. It features a floral print on the front that looks like artwork with a gradient of pinks and blues. The back is solid dark blue, with a zipper at the top.
The top is ethically made from 100% Tencel. You can get it here on sale for under $30! I’ve paired it with a blush pencil skirt and light blue trousers for work wear. However, this top can easily be paired with almost any color jean, and can transition into fall by adding a chunky cardigan. Might I add that this top pairs beautifully with the D.C.-based Kicheko Goods ‘In Bloom’ necklace?! Check out my post on Kicheko here, or shop the necklace here.
Felipa Hemp Jacket
This light jacket is ideal for those in-between spring and fall days when it’s not quite warm, but not yet cold. Virginia is known for having many of those types of days. That’s why I was excited to see this hemp jacket from Thought.
This was my first piece of hemp clothing (!), so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s a structured jacket, but keep in mind that hemp is a very soft fiber. So it has structure, but it’s not stiff. This makes it perfect for the office. I often struggle with wearing blazers or other jackets in the office because the stiffness gets uncomfortable. The hemp jacket can be worn all day at the office with 100% comfort. The jacket features two pockets in the front, and a hook at the chest (shown in the left above) so you can opt for a closed or open look.
Hemp does wrinkle, so I’d recommend a) not crumpling it up and/or b) steaming it to loosen the wrinkles. The great thing about a white jacket is that it pairs with anything: black, navy, grey, etc. Right now you can get this jacket on sale for $45 here!
Krista Organic Cotton Trousers
I’ve been looking for ethically made or sustainably made pants, and I finally found this pair! On me, these navy organic cotton pants are a cross between trousers and a stretch legging, so I plan to wear them with longer tops or tunics, at least to work.
Many trousers can be stiff and unforgiving. Thankfully, these pants from Thought have an elastic waistband (see photo below for a close up) and recycled nylon for stretch – so you’ll be comfortable all day. They also feature a front and back pleat, dressing them up. You can get the trousers here on sale for $42.
The back of the pants also features a zip at the bottom of the pant. This is my first pair of navy pants aside from jeans, so I am excited to style them for work and beyond. Well done, Thought!
Jasmin Hemp Top
This embroidered hemp top from Thought has impeccable quality. You can tell that it is artisan made and handcrafted with care.
The top is made from hemp, and features embroidery and lace. It features a v-neck in the front and back, with thick tank sleeves. The top can be worn for both work or play. For off-duty, pair it with jeans and flats. For work, pair it with black pants and heels.
I can’t stress enough the quality and the detail of this top. I love it and I think you will too! The fit is a little boxy, so if you’re looking for a tighter fit I would recommend going down one size. You can get the top on sale here for only $30!
That rounds up my summer haul from Thought! Let me know what you like best in the comments below or if you have any questions!
